How to Know Which Thermal Management Solutions are Right for You

Posted by David Haan on May 12, 2020 9:20:43 AM

When figuring out which thermal management solutions are right for you or looking for a thermal management partner, it’s ideal to find a long-term solution that can help your business grow. It can be tempting to look for a cost-effective or quick-fix solution, but those won’t help you achieve your long-term goals.

Many times, there’s so much time and money spent in the research and development of the product that nobody takes into account the logistics of shipping it and whether or not it’s temperature-sensitive. So by the end of the project when they’re thinking about building it into the supply chain, there’s no budget left. Don’t let this happen to you!

So the first step is to sit down and figure out what the requirements are for what you’re shipping.

    • How big is the product?
    • How many of them are you shipping?
    • Does it have temperature requirements?
    • How far will they be shipped?
    • Will they be shipped global or domestic?
    • Will seasonality affect the contents?
    • How many touch points will there be?
    • Is there a risk of them being exposed to sunlight or moisture?
    • How valuable is the payload?
    • Who is the recipient?

This is a conversation that has to happen because you need to make sure you’re taking all of the key elements into consideration when figuring out what thermal management solution is right for you.

You also want to decide how important sustainability is to you. Will you use recyclable materials? Do items have to be shipped overnight? If so, that’s going to leave a bigger carbon footprint.

One of the main takeaways you’ll uncover is that no two situations are the same so you need to take everything into account and figure out what solution is right for you. If you’re looking for an off-the-shelf answer to your needs, you may find that it only solves for one problem, but not the other. For example, there may be an off-the-shelf solution that meets your exact temperature requirements, but it’s a large package that is expensive to ship and leaves a big carbon footprint.

Those problems can be avoided when you stop looking for a cheap solution or order products online without having an informed conversation with thermal management experts. Only a dedicated team of experts can take your needs, priorities, and budget and come up with a strategy and solution that meets them all.
