Encapsulated Phase Change Materials
Shown above: ASTM test panel filled with blown insulation incorporated with Microtek's ignition-resilient phase change material microcapsules demonstrating the effectiveness of the IRPCM-28 material at rapidly stopping the progression of the ignited insulation.
Ignition Resilient PCMs
- Winner of the R&D 100 2009 Award!
DESCRIPTION
These patent-pending capsules provide all the benefits of the Microtek’s standard microPCM capsules with the added safety features required to meet today’s stringent flame retardant regulations. The Ignition Resilient PCM capsules are safe and non-toxic. The microcapsules have high thermal stability, flexibility throughout repeated thermal cycling, and ignition resilience conforming to ASTM C1485-00 when used in cellulose insulation.
PROPERTIES
The IR-PCM capsules have the following general properties:
- Color: White or green.
- Melt point range: 25-32C.
- Form: Dry powder or wet filter cake.
- Mean particle size is 15-25 micron.
- PCM content in capsule: 70-80%.
- Density: Slightly less than 1 g/ml.
The ignition-resilient PCM microcapsules are ideal for any application that requires thermal regulation and flame retardant properties. Potential applications include building materials, textiles, packaging, and electronics.
